Medlar “Paradise”

Wolf Music, the seasoned house music appreciators, are back on the gas pedal again. With Ishmael and Black Fan showing face on April’s white label and Frits Wentink‘s Rarely Pure, Never Simple album a month before, they prep their next course. Wolf grad, Medlar, makes a colourful return to the fore with WOLFEP030 — a first project since his debut album, Sleep.

Flakes of jazz are kneaded in at different points throughout; a dribble of sax here, piano runs galore elsewhere (“Dawn Chorus”). Yet it’s “Paradise” and it’s alluringly cyclical drive that makes it first pick. A truly harmonious affair: yearning string solos, trundling conga/bongos underfoot and even birdsong at the tail end. The video by Letty Fox is just as blissful in all its black and white, zoological glory.

Just as Mother Nature would have wanted it. Out on 5th October 2015.
