Savile “Recipes From Nowhere”

The Black MadonnaArgot / Little White Earbuds brain Steve Mizek, and the full Smart Bar family – there are some formidable slipstreams of talent pooling in Northside ’82, the in-house imprint of Chicago’s finest club (based on the North Side & founded 33 years ago, fyi). Instead of taking the easy route of just reheating off-cuts from their veritable stable of regulars, the label is placing faith in facilitating blossoming talent. Which leads us to Savile.

Here, one of the club’s junior residents and most vocal supporters has turned in a strong 12″ that belies his relative newcomer status. The Flügel-esque “Recipes From Nowhere” is our pick – an eminently replayable hive of dry, jittery drum machines and a rather polite central rhythm – but realistically anything from Suffer Play would have made the grade. That skill will be on display as part of next week’s Chicago vs Detroit trip, where Savile plays alongside that man Steve Mizek under what we’ll colloquially term S + S Music Factory.

…they should really consider going under that.

SMRT002 drops this Fall.
