With 2014 now in the rearview mirror, it made sense to try and encapsulate what Boiler Room has been all about over the past 12 months. That is, of course, easier said than done. Condensing an entire year into a succinct summary is tricky for anyone; when the task at hand encompasses over a month’s combined of music put in by close to a thousand individual artists, broadcast from around 55 different locations worldwide, it becomes that little bit harder.
It was a year of rapid expansion and healthy change. We upped our production game and expanded our remit to go further – both geographically and musically – than ever before. We presented it differently too, with a variety of new series and formats – and we’d have included the audio-only Upfront mixes and the revamped Debuts too, but didn’t want to muddle things further – allowing us to be more malleable and create a conducive atmosphere to frame the music we love in the proper way.
Some of the artists featured below are globetrotting stars; some are practically unknown. Every single one came correct with something engrossing, entertaining and thoroughly worthwhile. All deserve to be highlighted, and all deserve your attention.
The thirty recordings picked are not intended to be comprehensive—there are simply too many to get anywhere close. Instead of plumbing the depths, we figured it would make more sense to try and do justice to the enormous breadth of quality music Boiler Room was fortunate enough to bring you, and actively be part of, in 2014. Hope you enjoy.
