Chico Mann “Nobody Wants To (feat. Kendra Morris)”

Chico Mann, the self-proclaimed time travelling producer and multi-instrumentalist, is singlehandedly bridging the 30-something-yearlong gap between afrobeat and electronic music. His newest release marks his fourth outing on Soundway Records, the British label specialising in reissues of obscure afro-jazz, afro-funk and Latin originals.

“Nobody Wants To” is a chunky slab of spacey shimmering synth work with a hip-hop heart throbbing at its core. Supplying beautiful vocals is Kendra Morris, who explains that the track is about “trying to fill the void, and then being too stubborn to let go. (…) It feels good for a while, but then it kinda bottoms out.”

“Nobody Wants To” and its instrumental version drop on 7″ vinyl and digital formats on 20th May via Soundway. That same night, Soundway are throwing a party at London’s Village Underground. Come one, come all.
