Lefto presents

Boiler Room and Cubanisto are joining forces for a two-part event series, spotlighting Belgium's most vital performing artists.

The partnership launches in Brussels on Thursday 7th April with a secret party inside one of Belgium's most important cultural landmarks, all curated by the city's most influential selector: Lefto.

Even though expressions like 'the DJ's DJ' are made habitually by glib journalists, there are seldom few selectors worldwide who can claim to have earned their reputation on the back of supporting music alone. The tireless activists for the strange and the new; the bold tastemakers committed to casting wild and various offerings into view. The figures of inspiration for anyone with even an iota of passion for music and its culture. Ben UFO's one. J Rocc's another. There are many more in this network of internationally trusted curators, but there's one man who looms particularly large: Lefto.

A storied turntablist of over two decades. A radio host for Studio Brussels for nearly as long. A dedicated curator for some of Europe's best festivals and a close affiliate to institutions like Gilles Peterson and labels like Stone's Throw and Blue Note. The list truly goes on (and on). We could sing his high praises indefinitely but with his commitment to the progression of Belgian music culture, there was simply no one better to curate our first proper touchdown in Brussels. Get excited.

"Showing the international community what our country has to offer musically has always been my main mission. Naturally then, it's an honour to invite some of my favourite locals to this Boiler Room line-up. Can't wait to reveal the sick location..." –– LEFTO

Antwerp's synth virtuoso Adriaan van de Velde brings together a world of sonic influence for his Pomrad project: the freakout jazz tradition of Herbie Hancock; the brain-melting fizz of Hudson Mohawke; and all the sleazy boogie of LA's favourite funk force, Dam Funk. Hot off the heels of a new record on On And On, he brings a fresh trove of new material to this special showcase. If you haven't checked his bombastic live set before now, prepare to be dazzled by of one Belgium's best.

"Pomrad was a one-man band until he decided to create a real band. He’s bringing that synth funk on bass-heavy beats in a sound that's completely his own. He has a new EP coming out very soon and therefore it’s essential for me to have him on the line-up." –– LEFTO

LTGL is a Jamaican-Polish young blood from Belgium and one of the most exciting newcomers to bubble up through Brussels' electronic underground. An affiliate of Brownswood Recordings and LA's Low End Theory, he's a beat-maker who has garnered serious props for the little time he's been around. Pushing a uniquely progressive sound, we're incredibly pleased to broadcast LGTL's BR debut live from home-turf.

“LTGL is one of my favourite Belgian producers, a fusion of Hudson Mohawke and Dimlite. A very talented kid who appeared on LA’s Low End Theory for the first time in 2015 and has fans like The Gaslamp Killer and J.Rocc. Not bad, right?" –– LEFTO

Samiyam

Watch Recording

Samiyam is one of California's original beat icons: the first man to rise up from Brainfeeder's primordial soup; a beating heart at the centre of Stone's Throw's essential catalogue; and (crucially) one of the most distinct grafters to emerge from LA's deep and varied beat scene. His arrival in Brussels is a welcome rarity and one that comes with a taste of the new: a bar-raising new LP to be performed live with all the slouch, shift and club-footed funk for which we're so fond. Lighters up.

"Samiyam is one of the pioneers when it comes to producing on the little Dr.Sample 303. Hailing from Michigan but living in LA, his was the first album to come out on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder. Eight years later, he has just released a new album on Stones Throw that features Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson on some lo-fi heavy beats and drums. I’ve been a fan of this cool guy since day one and I’m happy he’s part of the line-up i’m presenting." –– LEFTO
