It's A Passion
Upcoming

Gatt’s film resembles a car park version of the passion of Christ. Instead of Jesus pulled a cross, we see the artist dressed at the messiah pulling a BMW bumper to the sound of the 1992 SNAP! hit ‘Rhythm in a Dancer’. Gatt sees the work as part of her on-going interest in cars and the fetishisation of objects and brands in consumer capitalist society. Reebok plaster casts were attached to the ankles with chains – inspired by Good Friday procession which takes places every year in Malta, where hooded penitents dressed in white cloaks carrying crosses and dragging chains on their feet. The number plate reads ‘BEJBI’ - baby written in Maltese. - Francesca Gavin
