In May, our next Broadcast Lab commission saw Abbas Jazza & Nyege Nyege Festival realise ‘Singeli Vibes’: a high-energy showcase of local Singeli artists in Dar es Salaam, the genre’s birthplace.

For the uninitiated, Singeli is an electrifying African dance music from Tanzania, reaching speeds of up to 300bpm. Born in the bustling neighbourhoods of Dar, it has become more than just a sound — it’s a movement.
