To warm things up we have Purple/Image, who is Alex Gray from Sun Araw. Between a mix that's heavy with layered samples, faint waves of chopped and screwed, be prepared to have your earbuds blessed with the most diverse of sounds.
Next up is Los Angeles based DJ/producer/remixer Kingdom; leader of the Fade to Mind pack. Kingdom rose to public acclaim with his debut single "Mind Reader" (released on Fool's Gold in early 2010), a collaboration with big-voiced NYC diva Shyvonne. But even before "Mind Reader," Kingdom had been deeply involved in Bok Bok & Lvis-1990-s London-based Night Slugs collective, having had his European debut at their second-ever club night. It was his mixtapes that first alerted Night Slugs' attention. This Thursday, he'll be coming to you live from Los Angeles with what will undoubtedly be an amazing selection.
NGUZUNGUZU are ridiculously versatile - from house-inflected UK bass to kuduro to hi-tech reggaeton to Chicago juke to leftfield grime to zouk to cumbia, the Los Angeles based duo Nguzunguzu take a grab bag of worldly sounds and re-imagine them into the familiar framework of a contemporary R&B and hip-hop. Creating something much greater than the sum of its parts, Nguzunguzu makes futuristic global club music made to bump in Jeeps, knock out on world-class sound systems, and transmit into the unknown.
The ethereal band inc., which consists of brothers Andrew and Daniel Aged, spent several years playing, recording and touring with a number of pop heavyweights, including 50 Cent, Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Raphael Saadiq, Cee-Lo, Heavy D, Robin Thicke, amongst others. inc. (formerly Teen Inc.) began recording in 2010 and as their past attests, their music paints a portrait of the great American songbook. This Thursday they'll be performing live on Boiler Room, and we're more than excited.
