Swet Shop Boys, the trio of Riz MC, Heems, and Redinho, join us for a breakfast show showcasing the unique influences on their upcoming album Cashmere. Produced entirely by Numbers-signed producer Redinho, Cashmere features ney flutes, '60s and '70s psychedelic pop, disco-influenced Pakistani pop, sitar, and other qawwali-influenced sounds.
Riz MC is the alias of London-based actor and activist Riz Ahmed, who recently starred in HBO's The Night Of + Heems is NYC-based rapper Himanshu Suri, who first emerged as 1/3 of Das Racist, and has since released numerous solo projects. Together, Swet Shop Boys occupy a unique space in the hip hop sphere, and Cashmere tackles weighty issues including living in a post-9/11 world, Brexit, and police violence—offering a timely and critical vision of the world today.
Heems and Riz will break down formative influences on the album through selections by Redinho—an expert on Indian / Pakistani records.
Swet Shop Boys' album Cashmere is out October 14 on Riz and Heems' label Customs.
