LEX Records

Lex Best Thing: Lex Records’ Top Breakthrough Artists

Getting us set for the weekend, the Lex Records crew have come forward with the artists that they deem as hip-hop’s most exciting heads of the moment – one of which will also be joining us on the BR x Converse boat this weekend. With a small and highly selective roster orbiting primarily in the hip-hop realm, Lex are undoubtedly an imprint worth trusting.

Prefuse 73

PREFUSE 73

Guillermo Scott Herren has pleased us variously over the years as Delarosa & Asora, the folk-influenced Savath y Savalas, and in the drone clique Risill — but nothing has shook the mainframe quite like his work as Prefuse 73. His visits to London are famous and few, so it comes with great privilege to welcome the Warp wizard onboard. Prepare for a face-melting.

Bok Bok

BOK BOK

The kingpin behind (arguably) London's most important club imprint of the last half-decade, a tireless creative collaborator, and a devastating producer to boot — Night Slugs boss Bok Bok barely needs an introduction. Always bent on pushing things forward; there's a reason his BR appearances are nigh on hitting double figures.

Medlar

MEDLAR

One of three in WOLF Music's inner cabal, Medlar has worked his way up steadily from the breakout Londonder behind his still-irresistible early 12" 'Terrell', to a consistently celebrated producer with a glitteringly reviewed LP under his belt and a booking schedule that covers the globe. Catch him onboard running b2b with South London consort FYI Chris.

LA Priest

LA PRIEST

Nestled comfortably between Ariel Pink and (sometime collaborator) Connan Mockasin on a musical mood-map, LA Priest is Domino's premiere pysch-pop oddball. The former Late of the Pier frontman joins us as part of their hand-picked roster for a unique live set on the Thames. Get excited.

Boat Party Curators

NTS Radio

NTS Radio

Over the past 5 years, NTS Radio's growth has mirrored much of Boiler Room’s (our founders and theirs have been friends since the start). While we've grown into an online broadcasting realm of our own, their patch remains the leading online radio station specialising in underground music in the UK, if not the world. For our Converse boat party, we’ll be keeping it in the family with NTS as a key curator. They bring a storied cast that reflects the consistent variety in their day-to-day programming: Tehran-born 22tracks curator & NTS’ Paradise host Kasra V, style-crossing producer Palmistry and Bala Club associate & Precious Metals radio host Endgame.

Domino Records

Domino Records

Though Domino Records is now of 20+ years vintage, they still hold tight onto the original ethos – to represent and release music by artists who have no choice but to make music and to draw them to the attention of the outside world. The independent British label responsible for signing Four Tet in the late 1990s, has branched its expertise in all realms of popular music, and to both American and British camps – from the Arctic Monkeys to Animal Collective. It seemed only logical to have one of London’s most reputable music houses co-curate our Converse party. They come armed with two of the Domino roster’s finest: Petite Noir and LA Priest.

Lex Records

Lex Records

Lex Records has been getting it right since its inception in 2001. A task that perhaps comes naturally for an imprint, production and publishing house that initially had Warp as its parent label. Its small and highly selective roster predominantly of hip-hop includes the likes of BBNG & Ghostface Killah, Danger Mouse and DOOM. A prestigious name we’re pleased to add to our all-star cast of curators – who’ll be bringing with them Lex signees both new and old: Prefuse 73 and High Lucia.

Rye Wax

Rye Wax

Residing on Peckham’s Rye Lane, Rye Wax was doing it first as one of South London’s leading lights for music. Despite its many merits as a record store, music venue, cafe/bar and comic book emporium, it's been plagued lately with the threat of gentrification and redevelopment. Their timely appearance as one of our Converse party's guest curators will prove Rye Wax’s essential place in London’s underground music landscape. With them will be three homegrown artists from the Peckham-Camberwell borough that double up as Boiler Room favourites: Bok Bok and Medlar going b2b with FYI Chris.
