NYC-based experimental jazz tribe, Onyx Collective embody the genre’s dynamic energy for a new generation. Lead by saxophonist Isaiah Barr and drummer Austin Williamson, the group is a constantly shifting organism; sometimes a trio, at others a seven-piece ecosystem that can incorporate the likes of Nick Hakim, Princess Nokia, Wiki (from Ratking) and Dev Hynes at any one time.
Having already teamed up with Supreme and NYC radio station-come-community, KNOW WAVE, for their full-length debut Second Avenue Rundown, they released a trio of projects (Fruit Stand, Lower East Suite Part 1 & 2) via Ninja Tune's Big Dada imprint. They bring the fluidity of their Manhattan jams to East London on January 31.
Warming up is Brownswood Records selector and Gilles Peterson favourite, Kwasiba Savage. Having already earned her music stripes working for Honest Jons, Sound Signature, Wildheart Recordings and booking agency, Sounds Familiar, Ruby now presents on Worldwide FM. As if not enough, she also co-hosts monthly NTS Radio show and club night ‘In Flames’ which explores the distinctive and infinitely varied grooves of post-punk music.
Expect the unexpected.
