Hermeto Pascoal is a legend not only in Brazil but around the world, where he is celebrated as one of its greatest living composers. In his 8 decades on this planet, “O bruxo,” or, “the wizard,” has pushed the boundaries of orchestration, improvisation, and what counts as a musical instrument. After working with him in the early 70s, Miles Davis called him “the most impressive musician in the world.”
Drawing on the sounds of Brazil's mystical natural forces as well as its folk traditions, Pascoal has not slowed down. We were very excited to track him down to a small town in the backlands of the state of São Paulo to catch the current incarnation of Hermeto's magic.
