Huntleys + Palmers

A new audio mix series where we call upon the most interesting artists/DJs/record labels and ask them to peer into the near future. How they take it from there is entirely open to interpretation. This week, Huntleys + Palmers map their vibrant and diverse soundworld.

About this mix

As a result of an improved focus on both our core H+P and Highlife labels, 2014 was our most fruitful year to date. Throughout the year, we increased our output almost threefold and saw a slew of debut releases from the likes of Mamacita, Petwo Evans, Wrong Steps and Mehmet Aslan.

This year, we're looking to build on several of these relationships and follow up on the very promising potential these artists have demonstrated. As ever, we will also be introducing new talent throughout the year, alongside some other projects we've been working on. The mix comprises of several tracks from the next few releases on H+P only (Highlife is now a whole other beast), it includes exclusive new music and contributions from Alejandro Paz, Carisma, DrumTalk, Hi & Saberhägen, Italia 90, Lena Willikens, Luna, Oklo Gabon, Peter Scion, Sano, Usio, Wolf Müller and Wrong Steps.

Watch this space for the releases featured in the months ahead, to get you started, our Chapter 2 release is out now.

Boiler Room says...

Huntleys + Palmers are surging into another gear. With all the new ground broken in 2014 rendered a blurry purple patch in the rearview mirror, there is no sign of the momentum abating. After all, they can variously dip into a label, sub-label, mix series, and multifaceted string of club spots dotted all about the place for fuel to keep the engine throttling. Keeping abreast of everything is tricky, but you get a sense that's purposeful.

While far from a dilution of their influences, sonic cuepoints are definitely there. Think the colour of Cómeme, the vivacity of Optimo Trax and the goodtime goofiness of Studio Barnhus; all likeminded imprints doing great things in similar terrain. When you can list chummy mainstays Auntie FloRroxymore and the discovery of SOPHIE in a venerable catalogue amassed over just three years, it's clear that diversity is prized.

Glance over H+P's Thursday residency at the now sadly shuttered Plastic People, for example. There aren't many who can have Neana, Peaking Lights and Positive Centre all comfortably nestling side-by-side on a (seriously impressive) run of bookings over the past 18 months. Versatility is tantamount across the board.

Unsurprisingly, their Upfront is a melting pot—a hodgepodge of dancefloor heaters cherrypicked from a glut of underrated and in some cases wholly unfamiliar names; and a supremely enjoyable one at that. It's a back-slapping toast to 2015's many triumphs, delivered eleven months ahead of schedule. When you're moving at this velocity, strange fluxes happen.
