FTD

Our very own Charles Drakeford blends FTD exclusives with unheard tracks from his reputable friends list – truly mesmerising.

About this mix

Initially I thought this would be a great idea. I’d got myself in a nice little situation where the next 5-6 records were lined up, and things were looking pretty peachy. Then it came to trying to figure out how I could piece it all together and a sense of impending doom took hold.

They’re all very different records that really come into their own once served up in a wider context. I feel that very much sums up what FTD is about to be honest, and it also explains why this mix is a little all over the shop.

In the coming weeks the idea struck me that maybe I shouldn’t be so self-centred for once, and I could reach out to some pals for guidance. It’s fair to say my ass was saved, and shouts to Spencer, Huerco, Beatrice, Fergus, Yumé, Mr Muller, the Dekmantel conglomerate, In Rust We Trust & Del Bokeh Vista for their very kind contributions.

Charles Drakeford

Boiler Room says...

Alongside his work for us here at Boiler Room, Charles Drakeford keeps himself busy running a record label and hosting a biweekly show on NTS – all under the FTD (or From The Depths) umbrella.

Since its inception in the latter stages of 2014, FTD has been a haven for unconventional house and techno; music that engages the bedroom listener just as much as the dance floor regular. While each release showcases a varying style, all are brought together by an overarching aesthetic and palette cleansing sonics that are distinctively haunting and tastefully obscure.

Drakeford's entry to our Upfront Mix Series is a real treat. Awaiting inside is just a taste of what to expect in 2016 - including excerpts from the much anticipated DJML record - intertwined with unheard goodies from the likes of Huerco S, Visible Cloaks and Beatrice Dillon. Expect hypnotic ambiance, spurts of hard hitting techno and oddities that defy definition. The "all over the shop" mix is reminiscent of the versatility of both Charles as a DJ and the label itself, with various sounds from multiple corners of the globe combining brilliantly for an easy on the ears listening experience.

Sit back and enjoy.
