Boiler Room and leading music tech providers, Native Instruments, are combining forces to work on a series of insightful events, feature articles, performances, mixes, and more. In our next chapter, we take a deep dive through the evolution of digital sound –– specifically, the synthesis of digital sound, its effect on the creative process and the centrality of NI's Reaktor in this exciting electronic lineage.
Our second creative program with Native Instruments culminated in exclusive one-off commission between Russian techno doyenne Dasha Rush & Italian-born pioneer Dino Sabatini. Both long-time Reaktor adopters, they performed an extended improvised jam on NI's flagship 'infinity machine' amidst an island of hardware.
REAKTOR & THE EVOLUTION OF DIGITAL SOUND
FeatureAny history on the evolution of digital sound is bootless without paying tribute to Native Instruments' Reaktor – the software studio that revolutionised the synthesis of digital sound in the late 1990s. Nearly two decades since its conception and now into its sixth generation, it remains the torchbearer for experimental sound processing.
Read on as we honour Reaktor's centrality in the evolution of computer music via ten essential musical works to which the software formed creative backbone –– together with testimonials from everyone from Haxan Cloak and Objekt to Squarepusher and The Flaming Lips.

PodcastA standalone goliath in California's barren techno landscape, Moe Espinosa – aka Drumcell – has always been a determined experimentalist in sound. Though galvanised by the early '90s rave scene in LA, his love affair for synthesis and sonic design date back to the classical training of his musical youth.
Now a vanguard sound designer, label founder, performing artist (and a product specialist for NI to boot!) there are few other people who can discourse more entertainingly on the evolution of digital sound. Press play on an exclusive podcast in which Drumcell tells the story of his entry into the world of synthesis via several essential records.
