Footwork: the 160 bpm, Chicago-originated sound that has traversed the globe. Originally founded as Ghettoteknitianz by DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, DJ Tre, DJ Manny, and Gant-Man, and eventually rebranded as Teklife in 2010, the collective has made massive strides in recent years. Most recently, Teklife established itself as a label, inaugurating the Teklife imprint with DJ Rashad's Afterlife LP, a posthumous project which featured Rashad collaborating with nearly all of the Teklife team.
DJ Earl has put together a mix showcasing where the Teklife sound is has evolved—looped vocals, hypnotic drums, dizzying synths. Brand new unreleased material, forthcoming cuts, and unreleased joints from the squad await within, and there's more to come from the label in 2016 and beyond.
As footwork's preeminent champions, Teklife have continued to push the genre forward.
