Bwana “Flute Dreams”
Bwana is a name you may not have heard from in a while. The reasons for that are apparent now: in spite of a strong start, he chose not to get swept away as the digital tide went out. Having secured a coveted release on Will Saul’s Aus – not to mention mastering by Gingy, and backed with a Simian Mobile Disco remix on the flip – the man is evidently making good on lost time with “Flute Dreams”.
If that title raises an immediate red flag, fear not. The track does well to repair the (justifiably) wretched reputation that flautists have accrued from their ‘contributions’ to prog rock and Goa trance. Gliding across a galloping beat and a deep bassline stretched repeatedly to disintegration, the flute in question sits cosily, tag-teaming any synth line for a melody that’s tonally richer and a little more distinctive. Odds on you’ll find yourself whistling this in no time.
