A visionary in electronic music since the mid-1990s and longtime release artist on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, one of the UK’s longest players Ed DMX [aka DMX Krew] returns this month with You Exist – nine tracks of skilfully crafted electronic sounds coming out on Hypercolour. The feel of the release is largely retrospective, honing all avenues of DMX Krew’s musical roots – from floor-to-wall house and techno territory, to more contemplative IDM. The upbeat nature of “Woolly Hat” exudes an optimistic feel – with its bouncing bass line and shiny synths leaving a residuary glow after the initial melodies have played out. 2+ decades on, DMX Krew proves to be as engaging as ever, satisfying listeners everywhere with a release as consistent as You Exist.
