NTS Radio has grown and grown over the last few years, and if you follow the trail of where it all stems from you’ll arrive at Femi Adeyemi. His music taste and outlook on music are the foundations of the stations diverse programming, alongside the team he’s amassed of course.
We were lucky enough to get the guided audio/visual tour of his record collection. Amassed over the years working in Eldica (Dalston), DJing at Nonsense and early Boiler Room shows and spending many educating years on the Plastic People dancefloor.
Just when you think you’ve got a sense of Femi’s music taste, he throws a curveball. This Collections episode aims to draw a lineage through his love of obscure records though.
Here’s a little taster on what’s in store, with a ‘Through The Key Hole’-esque photo teaser.
“My limited book shelf mainly made up of all my dad’s books – and a poster designed by Toby Evans.”
“A 30th Birthday present from my girlfriend Mischa.”
“Tracy Lynne Clarke was is ex Miss Black America who unfortunately died in a car accident. I bought this one off Andrew Morgan (PPU) a few years ago. I ended up giving it to Charlie Bones for a birthday present because he loved it so much – so he bought me another copy for my birthday in return. This is the only record she ever did.”
“An LA gang polaroid I bought of the internet. I picked up a few of these some years back, because I heard some rumours that people were collecting them. I sold a bunch and made some doe of it, this was the only one I kept. The other pic is of a band reissued by PPU.”
“Another PPU promo flyer for a record they reissued.. I’m a big fan, if you hadn’t guessed already.”
“George Duke’s ‘Faces In Reflection’: still one of my top 10 records and it forever will be. I bought my copy off Cherrystones a years back.”
Head over here on Friday to watch the episode live.
