Unearthing sonic remnants of traditional Middle Eastern grooves is Kalbata’s mission. Channelling his vision through his co-founded Fortuna Records, the Tel Aviv-based producer and DJ gives a platform to the more obscure findings on vinyl. Here at BR, we tip our hats to any outfit that takes the time to spotlight the music that has otherwise gone neglected, taking a risk to continue its legacy in a different paradigm altogether.

Forming part of the label’s first original release that isn’t a reissue, Kalbata’s “Al Shark Part 2” is top draw. Deeply steeped in voodoo vibes, “Al Shark Part 2” makes use of raw percussion rich from the Orient, hypnotic in its reverb-soaked nuances and high pitched vocal cries. All collide to paint a musical picture of Kalbata’s psychedelic vision with the most vibrant of colours.
