Nico Motte “I.C.A”
Nico Motte, the man behind the visual identity of Parisian imprint, Antinote, marks his label comeback with Life Goes On If You Are Lucky. Following on from last year’s beautiful debut 12″ on the aforesaid label, Nico’s dialogue with his musical machines continue in the seven tracks of his new LP.
Touching on LGOIYAL‘s housier tip, “I.C.A” builds complexity through its layers of synth pads, synthesised woodwind, basslines and percussion – all incredibly melodious in nature, and orchestrated with ease by Nico. Behind the multiple structures hides the heart of the song which, after several listens, grows on you before you’ve even truly realised. Nico’s multi-craft of composition, arrangement, conducting and production is plausible once experiencing the seven (not so much tracks but) instrumental suites in Life Goes On If You Are Lucky. An opus that experiments bravely with the sonic spectrum in its entirety, from live saxophone to vocals in the form of Syracuse‘s Isabelle, and explores human fragility in its fullest, frankest form.
Life Goes On If You Are Lucky comes out on 14 December via Antinote.
