Saturday Six is an opportunity for us to delve into the Boiler Room archives to share six sessions that are tethered by a similar theme or topic. There’s a lot in there – like, a lot a lot – and plenty of surprises are unearthed when churning around in there. So think of this as a refresher for everybody.
In this first edition, we’re honing in on some of the album announcements that we’re particularly excited about from the upcoming year. The past week has seen a faintly ridiculous deluge: Fort Romeau’s debut, a 2xLP remix compilation from Daniel Avery, and Tessela’s pairing with Shangaan figurehead Nozinja for a split 12″ were all in contention, but we had to whittle down.
So you’ve got Pearson Sound and Levon Vincent detailing their long-awaited full-length outings on Hessle Audio and Novel Sound, respectively. A pair of collaborative efforts: Ryuichi Sakamoto and Taylor Deupree teaming up on a live recording, as well as Björk enlisting the crushing atmsopherics of The Haxan Cloak on Vulcinara. Plus, Purity Ring are back with a 4AD follow-up to 2012’s fine Shrines.
Then there’s Brodinski, rollcalling from a parchment scroll of impressive heft (Peeway Longway! Young Scooter! iLoveMakonnen!) and gunning for trunk-rattler of the year nice and early.
All told, Q1 appears to be shaping up really nicely.
