Can we even call it dubstep any more? Both the consistently awesome Innamind label and maverick Turkish producer Emir Ongun aka Gantz have made their mark though 140bpm half-steppers with lung-crushing subs as standard – but both have constantly chipped away at the conventions of the sound, never ever getting locked into formulae. Now with the launch of Innamind’s (even more) experimental offshoot, Blacklist, we’re fully through the looking glass. Just one listen to Gantz’s elastic tempos, sampladelic mischief and slip-sliding sound palette on this track tells you he’s no longer tethered to anything but his own warped imagination. We’re going to be watching Blacklist with anticipation (and a little trepidation!)
