Lobster Theremin

Jimmy Asquith brings forth the exciting new happenings of label & distribution house Lobster Theremin, as well as sub-label Distant Hawaii. Imre Kiss, S Olbricht, DJ Sonikku, nthng, ASOK & plenty more goodies await.

About this mix

The last couple of years of Lobster Theremin have been a pretty wild ride through different strains of house, techno, electro, ambient and other facets of electronic music.

The most exciting and invigorating aspect however has been the discovery of so much incredible unknown underground talent: artists totally obscured from the view of conventional labels, and who are puristically pursuing their art form, but who also need a home to present their material. That was a large part of the drive for starting the label and increasing the output to such a high rate, and it will continue into this year with plenty of new names joining LT.

For this mix, I brought together a ton of forthcoming tracks from Lobster Theremin, plus material from our Distant Hawaii offshoot and a few other stray unreleased bangers, with quite a few new names in there plus some returning mainstays of the label. I was keen to pull out the more euphoric aspects of what we'll be releasing, as it seems to have become a bit of a theme for the next 12 months.

After showcasing a large amount of brain-melting techno last year (although there will be a decent amount this year too) it was time to use a slightly lighter touch, but there's still plenty of punchy heaters and some sly electro cuts.

There's also a proper wildcard at the end, so listen out for that ;)

Boiler Room says...

Our relish for Lobster Theremin has grown with every new and exciting endeavour they have unravelled over the past three years. Jimmy Asquith and the Lobster crew are cultivating something truly unique: with names such as Palms Trax, Imre Kiss and Panthera Krause now key to Lobster's musical aesthetic; DJ Sonikku and Hidden Spheres riding the wave of sub-label Distant Hawaii's initial flux; as well as ~125 independent labels and homemade imprints such as Salt Mines getting the seal of approval as part of their distribution outfit.

Quality is upheld, as is their humble approach to such a yielding output. Jimmy brings a taste of what's to come in today's Upfront, comprising of a load of forthcoming-ness from both Lobster and Hawaii. As well as some aforementioned names, nthng, S Olbricht, Supreems, ASOK and plenty more goodies await inside.

Eclecticism is rife throughout, and those that have followed the label's progression can probably sympathise with our failure to summarise the sound – other than being electronic-ish, and always good.

Not that it matters much anyway. All in all, Lobster Theremin has effortlessly achieved the title of a guaranteed tastemaker – & they're about to enter their true prime in 2016.
