V.C. “Amazing Memory”
Yep we’ve got all the Finnish funk you could want. For those that don’t remember, skweee was the genre that emerged on 7″ singles from Scandinavia in the mid-2000s based on all-analogue equipment, full of lurching basslines and g-funk synth leads – supported by Kode 9, oddly paralleling the hyperfunk of Joker and Rustie that was emerging around the same time, and presaging a lot of the hardware-led “outsider” sounds of the 2010s. But it never went away, and most of its major names are still pumping out the wiggly-worm noises – not least V.C., who as this dancehall-powered beast shows, is still firing on all cylinders. It comes from the Black Squirrel White Castle EP out on Raha & Tunteet on the 25th May.
